In 2007 LOKK started a telephone counseling service at 70 27 03 66 to ethnic minority parents, who experience challenges with their teenagers and adult children, who are caught between two cultures. LOKK also offers parents personal meetings with its counselors, meetings which can be assisted by interpreters if required.
LOKK has produced folders to parents in 6 different languages: Danish, Turkish, Arabic, Urdu, Dari and Somali. Find the folder here.
Parents between two cultures
Some ethnic minority youths in Denmark go through the teenage years with many specific challenges. The youths are caught between two cultures: the cultural background of their families and Danish culture which they meet in schools, youth clubs, etc.
In LOKK’s film ‘Parents between two cultures’ three parents share how they deal with their children’s wishes. Religion, honour and status play an important role for these parents. The film shows the children’s wishes, the parents' point of view and how children can avoid being stuck in a double life with concealment and lies.
LOKK - Landsorganisation af kvindekrisecentre arbejder for at synliggøre, forebygge og eliminere mænds vold mod kvinder og børn.
